Political Correctness Gone (even more) Too Far

There should be The Stupid Police, and their job would be to throw people like this in jail.

Quoting Associated Press:

Arkansas coach Houston Nutt said that players caught loafing will no longer wear pink jerseys during practices in an effort to avoid offending breast cancer survivors.

So it’s now Politically Incorrect to use the color pink in association with anything negative.  There are lots of other sensitive issues in our society, some of which have particular colors to identify their movements.  Should all these colors be off-limits for all uses with negative connotations?  Of course not, that would be stupid.

Well, I don’t know who could be better equipped to be The Stupid Police than us.  Of course, our influence and authority are somewhat limited.  Perhaps we should form our own Minutemen Project to guard the border between stupidity and mainstream society.

Heh.  You know how when you focus on a single word for a little while, either saying or thinking it over and over again, it starts to sound/feel alien and just makes no sense?  But if you think of it again 5 minutes later, it’s perfectly normal?

I think something similar just happened to me when I revisited this post.  It now seems to me that branding ourselves "The Stupid Police" might have a negative side-effect of making people think that WE are the stupid ones.

Hrm.  Meet me back at The Stupid Headquarters at oh-seven-niner hours and we’ll converse.

To the stupidmobile!!  Hmmm, I think I’m beginning to see your point.  We’ll have to work on that one.
