A couple weeks ago we went to the Troc to see a band called MattpondPA. Margie works with one of the guys, so she wanted to check it out. As it turned out, Rainer Maria was the headliner, whom I never heard of. Their sound was unusual to me, but I liked the guy/girl singing duo. Anyways, I had no idea what classification they fell under, but you describe them as Emo to the max, so now I know what Emo sounds like. I guess I’m revealing my age by admitting I don’t know Emo, but oh well.

That’s awesome. I’ve never seen a Rainer Maria show but I’d love to. Yeah I think they’re a pretty good example of emo... they have some of the most emotional vocals, especially with the duet action. Emo is so hard to define. You could really lump so many bands into the genre. Rainer Maria are older, so they might be called (or prefer to be called) indie rock moreso than emo, but based on the literal meaning "emotional" they definitely fit emo. But emo bands tend to be younger. I think some good examples of emo would be The Get Up Kids, Dutchland Diesel, Texas is the Reason, Brandtson, Dashboard Confessional... yeah I think that’s a good short list.
