Does peanut butter go bad? I have a container of Jif in my cupboard, and I have no idea when I bought it. It looks and smells fine, but I can’t find a datestamp anywhere on the container.

Actually, it will develop a slight musty smell and will mildly irritate your stomach. All oils (corn oil, olive oil, etc.) will turn rancid over time. We refrigerate out peanut butter because one jar lasts many months for us. Unopened jars will last much longer.
Once we ate fried chicken from a restaurant that didn’t change their shortening in their deep fry vats and we all got digestive problems.
