Not enough time...

These 2 weeks are too packed. Exams and gigantic homeworks and projects and everything.

When I haven’t been studying or doing homework, I managed to finally get one of my LCD screens working! So I got to work bringing my mp3 frontend script up to speed.  Sometime soon (read: Christmas if I’m lucky...) maybe I’ll get this guy into my car.  But in the meantime check him out on this page.

So on my way back to school Sunday evening, I saw what was easily one of the top 5 sunsets I’ve ever seen.  I’m convinced that there’s a universal law akin to Murphy’s law that states "if Anthony is driving and/or late for a meeting, then the sunset will be particularly amazing."

And the cops were rolling thick the whole way to school... I passed about 10 of them who’d pulled people over.  That makes me so angry.  That is such a huge waste of resources that are desperately needed to combat actual wrongdoing in society.  There is no data to support the claim that "speeding" (which is merely exceeding an arbitrarily chosen number) causes accidents, but that seems to have no bearing on reality for these people.  There are roads in many states and other countries with no speed limit and the incidence of accidents is no higher there.  Grrr, anyway...

Pigeon Jimmy John is the new James Bond.  I’m taking out you suckers and you don’t know how I did it.

Yo A,

I just read about your LCD project. You amaze me with your talent, man.  Is this an original Anthony idea?  If so it’s good that you’re documenting everything, but you might wanna be carefull as to how much you divulge to the public if you have patent intentions.  So you’re eventually gonna put that whole sv25 system into your car?  Are you using a full size keyboard for inputting?  How about a handheld one, why stop there, how about voice recognition(you probably already thought of that)?

Love, peace, and hairgrease..

Oh yeah, and about the cops and speeding tickets, it’s all business...BIG business. I got pulled over a couple months ago on 81 doing 79 in a 65 and it was like a business transaction or something.  No questions like where are you going? or how fast do you think you were going?  Just wham, bam, ticket...he even smiled and was very very nice.  The whole transaction took less time than waiting in the drive through line at Mcdeath.  Chaa-Ching.

No, it’s not an original Anthony idea.... I wish it were : )    There are actually lots of people doing similar projects; if you search google for car "mp3 player" lcd parallel you’ll see some of them.  My idea was born out of frustration more than the coolness factor, though... since I have more than 300 CDs, the chances are like 4:1 against me that the CD I want to listen to will be in my car at any given time.  Keeping a larger percentage of my CD collection in my car is obviously impractical and foolhardy, and since I listen to music via computer in my room, it only makes sense to do the same in the car.  But anyway, no, no patent is planned.

There are tons of issues with putting it in the car that I have to think about.  There’s the power issue... computers plug into AC outlets, so you’d want an inverter in your car.  But inverters are big and expensive and inefficient.  And the computer just converts the AC to DC anyway, so ideally I’d make a modified power supply that regulates the car’s DC to the appropriate levels for the PC.  But you can’t do that with systems that use an ATX power supply... and sv25 does.  So I’ll have to use an older system with an older AT power supply (maybe my 233mmx server box?) instead.  Which stinks, because the sv25 is so tiny and ideal for that kinda thing.

I am using a full-size keyboard currently, but once I get it into the car, it’d be nice to have a handheld one, IF I could find a wireless one that matches my black interior.  Voice recognition is an idea too, but the technology that’s freely available to-date isn’t entirely robust... and you don’t have the same kind of control that you have with direct keyboard input.  So... it’ll be a keyboard, at least for a while.

Word on the cop tip. And the Mcdeath tip for that matter. Anger . . .

..Yeah, anger. I saw a bumper sticker yesterday while driving during my lunchbreak that stated "If you’re not enraged, you’re not paying attention".  How true on so many differnet levels!
