Safe For Whom?

Apparently "unsafe abortions" kill 70,000 women per year.

Aw, what a shame.

"Safe" abortions kill 1.4 million people per year in the US alone.

word.. i believe the correct term for this is homicide. from a biologist’s perspective, it’s completely ludicrous to claim that a "fetus" (i.e. BABY) is not alive at the time of an abortion.  from the moment of conception, life begins.  whether you believe that or not is usually irrelevant, because most abortions aren’t performed until 6 weeks or so anyway. By this time the backbone, spinal column, and nervous system are forming. The kidneys, liver, and intestines are taking shape and there is a detectable heart beat.
i used to have a roommate (who was a biology student, by the way) that championed the phrase "keep your laws off my body."  i don’t understand how a separate little person growing inside you is YOUR body. an unborn child is not really any more dependent on it’s mother than an infant, as neither can take care of itself. abortion methods are brutal and disgusting. i think if more people would take the time to learn about them, abortion would be a lot less acceptable in our society. if you’re interested, here’s a reference on abortion methods: (just to warn you, this is graphic) and one on fetal development: ("at 12 weeks, the fetus may even sucks it’s thumb," awww...)

what really amazes me is when people describe an unborn child as something other than human. i don’t understand that argument at all.

on a side note, i find it amazing that some people worry about the rights of criminals on death row, but don’t have a problem with sucking an innocent little baby to bits. i’m not going to voice my opinion on the death penalty... i’m just saying it’s a weird standard.

anyway, it’s not surprising to find that "unsafe" abortions are responsible for 70,000 deaths a year. anything that involves introducing a potent vacuum, sharp blade, or toxic substance to your internal organs seems inherently dangerous to me.
