Summertime...

...summer, summer, summer-tiiime, oooh the summertime... doot doot pause doot doot...

Anyway, Kim and I had some watermelon yesterday.  If you’re ever not sure what season it is, that’s one good way to check.  If you’re eating fresh watermelon it’s probably summer.

It was delicious too, and that is the main point I’m trying to make.  Other fruits must be so jealous of watermelon.  I like most fruit, but there’s really no comparison.  I mean what other fruit is four times as big as your head, is hard and dry on the outside, and is hiding a cool, juicy, sweet, red paradise on the inside?

I also love raspberries and strawberries, but they are still no match for watermelon.

What’s the thing at the beginning?  "...summer, summer, summer-tiiime, oooh the summertime... doot doot pause doot doot..."

Giant Papaya is a close contender

I’m a peach man myself, but a hip-hip-huzzah for watermelon anyway!

I hate watermelon.  It’s like sweet styrofoam. Except grosser.
But, I love love love raspberries and blackberries and really ripe plums.  Yum yum

ps that’s the second time I typed ’styrofoam’ in the last 5 minutes. (make that third) How many people can say that? Hmm?

Plums, peaches, papaya?  Come on.  Have any of you ever even SEEN a watermelon?  Did you notice how it could fangoriously devour an entire bushel of your little fruits without a moment’s hesitation?  (OK, it might hesitate before consuming the giant papaya, but only for a moment.)

Anyway, the beginning is from a song called "Summertime" by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, which came out in 1991 and was on the radio a lot.  It’s still on once in a while so you might have heard it.

Watermelon never got it’s picture on a bubble gum card. How can you say something is great that’s never had it’s picture on a bubble gum card?

Perhaps peaches don’t try to eat the watermelons because they know the taste is inferior to their own.  Plus, a peach pie will always be better than a watermelon pie, and that’s a scientific fact!

Good grief.

Watermelon pie!  Ick.

(Readies witty defense...)

Watermelon would never allow itself to stoop to the level of mere filling as would be required to be part of a watermelon pie.

A pie is the greatest form of food that a fruit can participate in!  The fact that there’s watermelon pie at all has to be because it petitioned for it.  What human being would want watermelon in a pie?  In fact, if you look at the ingredients, the watermelon can’t even hold it’s own.  It needs the help of jello!  I rest my case.

See, now I had a choice between leaving well enough alone in this discussion or taking it to an even more ridiculous level.  I probably made the wrong choice.  I will make the concession however, that watermelon Jolly Ranchers rule all over peach Jolly Ranchers.  How’s that for fair and balanced?

Hi Uncle Eddy!  Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.  Yes, I think I’ve only seen you once or twice in my life when I was old enough to remember.  Actually I think the single bit of information that I have about you is that you are my "uncle Eddy who lives (lived?) in Africa."  Ha!

Ohh! I remember wondering about that little lyric at the beginning, and since you wrote what it was, I’ve heard it and now know what song it is!
And I love it.
I love watermelon too.

Um, where the hell can I buy Peach Jolly Ranchers?! They are the BEST flavor EVER and I can’t find anything about them ANYWHERE! *sobs*
