Hostage

Kim and I watched the movie Hostage yesterday (Bruce Willis, 2005).  I really liked it, and I think that any other fan of 24 would like it too.  I’ll post a comment with more specifics; don’t read the comments on this post if you don’t want to see spoilers!

On the one hand, Hostage seems like a blatant bite off of 24 (mainly season 1).  Right down to the bad punk kids & the behind-the-scenes real bad guys, the father-daughter tension, and the epidepherin.  They even got President Palmer’s right-hand security man to be a SWAT guy in Hostage.

It’s hard to imagine that a 2005 movie so similar to a 2002 (2001?) TV series wasn’t in some way influenced by it, but I guess it’s possible.  Either way though I think Hostage was a good movie.

The only thing Anthony failed to mention that might be a turn off for some 24 fans was that Hostage was fraught with bad language. Part of what I love about 24 is that there is no swearing!

Ah yes, there was more bad language in Hostage than in 24.  But to be fair, 24 does have its fair share of cursing; it’s just the d-word and the h-word instead of the s- and f-words.

What can I say?  Bruce Willis can do no wrong.  I thought that the opening scene was incredible (and as I recall even the opening credits were pretty cool).  I thought it got kind of goofy at the end though despite a pretty good premise.  I thought the "evil kid" was a little over the top.  I could be wrong though since I wasn’t feeling very well when I saw it (a condition that may or may not have been related to St. Paddy’s Day activities).  Anyway, I saw it and liked it, I just didn’t think it was a DVD I’d want to own, but I may Netflix it anyway just to see if I still feel that way.

On an unrelated note, how’s the married life? :)

I agree that the "evil kid" was a little over the top, particularly after he had was shot multiple times (which as I recall was accompanied by some pretty hardcore "look how dead I am" grunting) before he came out ominously wielding torches to burn down the house (Mind you, he’d already been stabbed in the face and ignited the majority of the house. All in a day’s work, really).
Even though I thought the movie was pretty good, I’m inclined to say that much of it was over the top.

The married life is super : )  And now that we aren’t spending every waking moment on wedding-planning, we might actually get to spend some time together!

Awesome!  I had an agent on the inside for the wedding (Ms. Woodley) and I heard it was a lovely ceremony.  I wish you two the best of luck.  :)
