I want to open the file /tmp/FC3-i386-disc2.iso. But the dialog provides no way to view the /tmp/ directory. It appears that’s impossible. If it IS possible, a half-hour of searching has yet to lead me to the solution. Anyone? Please??
You are right. I would like to figure this one out. I chmod /.hidden and edited in "vi" to remove the references to "tmp" (which is just a soft link to /private/tmp) and "private" then I rebooted. NO EFFECT!
I could go to the finder and enter "/private" into "Go to folder" in the menu, then expand the view and back out. Then it shows the "private" folder with "tmp" inside. But you cannot make the finder interface show those subdirs in diskutil.
Yeah. In the full-blown Finder it’s at least possible to enter an actual path, even if you need to use a special menu item for what is after all the main purpose of a file manager. But in the Finder-like dialog within Disk Utility, you literally cannot access some areas of your hard drive.
