colors

I would agree, not that it’s hard to read, it’s just that the entire website starts looking a little dull with this light gray color. Blue is OK, though.  You might need some other additional color to make the page stand out.

New theme!

New theme of lightness!

steev brought up a good point -- the blue is very light. So is the gray for that matter.  I’d like to know if anyone here finds it so light that it’s hard to read.

Also, did anyone notice the little bar of links at the top of the page, above the photos, where you can set the theme, and also see links to some of my friends’ webpages?  It’s pretty small (intentionally) so you might have missed it.

OK, now reply!

Burn Hollywood Burn

Mel Gibson is making a movie that depicts the last twelve hours of the life of Jesus Christ. The purpose of the film is to be as accurate as possible. The film will be spoken in the languages of the time, Aramaic and Latin, without any subtitles. It is entitled "The Passion."

If this were a film about any other subject, Gibson would be the recipient of endless accolades, hailed as everything from innovative to revolutionary to genius.  But this film is about Jesus, so Hollywood and the liberal media are attacking Gibson’s character instead.  They’re prying into his personal and financial life and harassing his father.

It’s not surprising in any way -- Jesus himself told us we would be persecuted on his account -- but it’s just so... discouraging . At least Gibson is choosing to make the movie now, in the first deca of 2000. Fifty or one hundred years from now, it will probably be literally impossible to make such a film, because the government (US, or World) would have Gibson incarcerated or assassinated. Difficult as it will be, that is the future Christians face.

KRS!

KRS-ONE is born again! Praise the Lord.  It’s not very surprising to me, having been a huge fan of Kris for 10 or so years now... you could always hear him struggling for and against Christ in his rhymes.  It’s so awesome and encouraging to hear that one of the 2 greatest MCs ever (the other being, of course, Rakim) has come to Christ!  Here’s a quick lyric or two from his latest album:

I know what y’all thinkin, KRS-One doing gospel rap??
Say word son!  Word sonny,
we don’t spit verbs for money
Some of these churchs be absurd and funny.
Everything I said in the past, I still spit that.
Songs like ’The Truth’, ’Higher Level’ and ’Why is That?’
I give back quick facts,
but when I say God created hip-hop
many churches won’t admit that...

To be a conscious rapper ain’t a mystery.
You gotta laugh when they call you contradictory.
The whole industry, you gotta push and pull it.
To really get with me, you gotta dodge they bullets -
BLAOW, BLAOW, BLAOW - every day and every way.
You critics got somethin to say?
At the same time, you’ve got to uphold Christ.
Uphold life, while others flash cars and ice.

Expect some tracks in the music section soon.

Strangeness of sleep

While I slept last night, I managed to flip my blanket completely over, so that the side that normally faces the mattress was facing up. That’s pretty amazing considering how little I move during sleep.  I sleep with my Bible and my cell phone on one side of my pillow, and a book and a pair of shorts on the other side of it, and they’re never disturbed, including last night.

anime

I’m just curious. Is anyone here an anime fan?  Does anyone here even know what anime is?  I always seem to be the only one no matter what group I’m in.  Than again I am one of the biggest cartoon freaks I know, too.  (also one of the biggest dorks :) )  It’s not a bad thing.  In fact, it’s fun to impress (annoy, actually) people on a subject they don’t care about.

A+ Photography

Hey Anthony, Your images look great! I like to come back and look through them once and a while and I can deffinately see how your improving.  You’re doing a great job.  I was looking through the most recent ones of whe snow, and I picked the ’Lamppost with Sparkles’ as my favorite, before even noticing that is was one of your favorites...  Good eye.  Don’t let that Iris flare turn you off, It looks great there and it’s great how some of it falls out of focus.  Were taught that people that care about their photos, arent afraid to take risks, and let things out of focus.  Keep up the good work, and keep the images coming.  Happy New Year to all!!

Memory

This is so interesting. There are scads of comments but they’re well worth reading.  One interesting thing I came across is the idea that deja vu is the result of your brain "messing up" and simultaneously processing a stream of events as observations and memory.  Deja vu is definitely pretty high on my "things to ask God someday" list.

One of the main debates in the article is the belief that memories cannot form until a person is 3 years old.  I have tons of memories from the house that I lived in for most of my pre-5-years-old life, but as I sit here and think, I can’t think of any that are definitely before age 3.  That’s just me, though, I’m not saying that proves/disproves anything about that concept.

All theorizing aside, I do enjoy the article just to read the memories that people share.

God's Mysterious Ways

so... yeah... I often look back with regret on the example I set for my classmates because I was always behind, and I let school stress me out so much... I’m a bad student and when I could I did the bare minimum of work and slid on through when I deserved to fail, but then it got tough and I had to try to learn to work hard... after year 2 of engineering school.
I never had time to study I was so busy doing homework and not sleeping and still trying to be as active as possible with His House Christian Fellowship and just working very hard at school... still I was behind and learned very little; I guess I’m slow. Sometimes I was at fault, and still I managed to get slightly higher grade than I thought, or pass when I should have failed, and I often wondered why God let me pass, believe it or not.  It would have been good for me in a way to fail, give me a chance to actually learn the material and become more humble.
And then I thought I’d study really hard for the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, and relearn and learn some stuff for the first time.  But I didn’t; I was lazy.  I took the FE, and it was a horrible 8 hour exam in which I frantically tried to come up with answers to things I just plain didn’t know.  By the way, the exam is multiple choice.  So anyway, I left knowing I would fail this time, and have wasted the $100.  I had learned a lesson.  Wait there’s more!!!  I got the results this week, and I passed!!!!!!  I cannot fathom God’s reasoning behind letting me remain so incompetent!!

Liberal Silliness

I love Bob Whitaker. I love him because he speaks the truth about issues, with absolutely zero regard for what’s politically correct.

"...From then until 1980 Republicans stuck to the middle of the road strategy, half liberal silliness and half a rejection of liberal silliness.  If you say "middle of the road" it sounds really Shrewd.  If you say it as I just said it, "half liberal silliness and half a rejection of liberal silliness," you get a realistic view of what moderation really is.  This so-called "moderation" doesn’t work in real world politics.  If you look at the real congress and the real legislature where people are really elected, they tend to be on the right or on the left.  Those who preach moderation never look at the real world.  They just kept mumbling "middle of the road"... Liberalism does not work.  Moderation does not work because it takes liberalism seriously.  To be a moron is forgivable.  To deliberately be half a moron is true insanity.  To be a Moderate is to be a half moron on purpose."

D-O-N-E done.

This awful semester is over. Argh.... it’s not really that the semester itself was bad.  I mean, I live in an awesome townhouse with 2 friends and I have a giant backyard (a rarity in a college town), and this area is nice what with mountains and caves and such.  But it was stinky in terms of classes.  For my entire life, including the first 2 years of college, I got basically straight A grades without putting forth any time or real effort.  Then junior year it suddenly -- and I mean really suddenly -- got difficult.  Sophomore year was like grade school, and junior year was nearly impossible in comparison.  So it’s taken me a long time to accept the fact that I now need to spend considerable time on schoolwork... and to actually start doing it.  As a result, I’m about a year behind where I should be, and my GPA went from 3.7 to 2.8.  Grrr, Penn State, anger!

And then there are days where I’m absolutely sure I could can this whole "engineer" business and just do web design/scripting for a living.  It’s so fun.  I recently designed a site for my friends in the band Owned and Operated at www.oaorock.com.  It uses the same CMS elements as my site (which I built about two years ago before I had even heard the term content management system) so it has a similar feel.  But um... the giant bug photo at the top, that wasn’t my idea, though I was present at its creation.  And it’s not a race, it’s a rebirth.

Argh!

Okay, this is annoying. I can never find anything! The internet hates me!  Someone, anyone, I don’t know the name of the song, but I want the lyrics to the second song on Blindside’s "Silence" CD.  My friend let me borrow it, but without the case.  Please, help before I injure myself.

Apple Ads

Apple has an ad campaign featuring people who supposedly switched from PCs to Apple computers... in the ads, these people talk about some horrible experience they had with a PC, and then how their new Apple computer is perfect. Some of the ads are mildly interesting/entertaining.

But what’s really funny is this video made in response to the Apple ads.

Dude

Hey, I just happened to stummble onto this site and I only have one thing to say. It rocks, dude!  I was actually looking for lyrics and google (Hating and teasing me as it is prone to do) took me here.  It’s cool to find some random site and learn a lot of it is deticated to some awesome C-rock.  I recently gave up secular music and it’s been hard finding anything about christain rock.  Luckly, my friend Ryan’s mom just opened the only Christian store in town.  If not for that my only hope would me the local Christain radio station and, no offense, I am not a very big fan of listening to Micheal W. Smith and ZOEgirl all day. (In fact, at all.)  Thanks man, I’ll probably end up here a lot.

Dilbert

I get a "Daily Dilbert" comic in my email every day, and once in a while I get a Dilbert Newsletter. The most recent one was hilarious, especially this part... I know a few people like this:

Running Water

Is there an Induhvidual in your house who doesn’t understand that when you’re using a sink you can’t hear conversation directed at you from another room? If so, try this little speech.

My Running-Water Speech:

"I can hear a vague buzzing sound that I believe is you, trying to talk to me from another room while I am using the sink. Believe it or not, the physics of sound have not changed that much since the last fifty times you tried unsuccessfully to yak at me from another room while I was using the sink. Tomorrow, when you try again, I will still not be able to hear you over the sound of running water in the sink."
