One Nation Under God

So now they’re trying (again) to remove "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance, because some atheist has nothing better to do than waste my tax money on another fraudulent court case.  You know what, the first amendment does not guarantee that atheists will never have to hear the word "God" spoken.  Our country was founded by Christians and there are references to God throughout our government.  What the first amendment DOES do is guarantee that people have freedom to choose whatever religion (including Atheism) they want to.

There is no law that forces a person to say the pledge, so this is a moot point anyway.  A kid could simply omit the "under God" part if he wants, or he could just not say the whole thing.  No one is forcing him to say it, and certainly no one is forcing him to believe anything.

If this guy doesn’t believe in God, fine, no problem.  But he is choosing to live in a country where the vast majority of people DO believe in God, a country that was founded on Christian principles by Christian people, a country whose leaders have been predominantly Christian for hundreds of years.  If he’s going to throw a hissy-fit anytime he hears the word God then he picked the wrong country to live in.  His poor judgement is not my problem so I shouldn’t be paying for it.

wow, you people are really sick. some of us don’t have a CHOICE as to whether or not we live in america.  emigrating to another country is expensive and a long process.  christianity has been destroying people/cultures/other religions for hundreds and hundreds of years.  have you ever heard of "separation between church and state"?  GET OVER IT.

I won’t vote at or affilliate myself with michaelsalvage.com because he’s using slanderous and unprofessional tactics to further his cause. Name-calling does no good, and generally causes one to frown upon your ideas, rather than agree with what you say about your opponent. On top of that, it’s just not nice and it’s immature.

Using loaded words doesn’t help things either.  The point is not debate in itself; the point is to convince your audience that your point of view is sensible, or that it’s the correct one in the case of a binary right-wrong issue.

And, of all things, to label someone a communist just because they disagree with you... that’s about as pathetic as it gets.

However...

> some of us don’t have a CHOICE as to
> whether or not we live in america.

Baloney.  No one is forcing you to live here.  Regardless of what you perceive as the difficulties of moving/living elsewhere, you are free to do so if you choose.  You most certainly have the choice.

> christianity has been destroying
> people/cultures/other religions for
> hundreds and hundreds of years.

Christianity has never destroyed anything.  It’s a faith, and as such it lacks the capacity to destroy anything.  It’s the adherents to a faith that can destroy things.  And since the time of Christ, there have been many so-called Christians who have done much damage to the world around them.  Like the Catholic church, for example.  They’re not Christian, but they claim to be, and they have caused so much death and destruction it’s almost unfathomable.  The point is, if you’re blaming "Christianity" them you’re misplacing the blame.

> have you ever heard of "separation
> between church and state"?

Indeed: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."  The establishment clause was designed to prevent the government from discriminating against people of a particular faith, or lack thereof.  The problem was that the US government had been requiring men to be church-goers in order for them to hold official positions.

That is simply inapplicable here.  This isn’t a law made by Congress respecting an establishment of religion, nor prohibiting the free exercise thereof.  It’s a reflection on the foundation and history of our country... a reminder that regardless of anyone’s current opinion, the FACT is that our nation was founded by men who believed that God had protected and led us to become the nation we had become.

No one is saying that "you must say the pledge" or "you must believe in God".  No one is passing laws requiring anything of the sort.  We’re simply honoring the history of our nation.  It’s a shame that some people are so anally "politically correct" that they want to lie about/cover up history.

We whole heartly agree with everyword said above, and pray that most of the people in this country agree, and if they don’t like our laws, rules, christianty, beliefs and rules of our great nation that we and our ancestors worked, believed in,and with our faith in God and our nation is how it came to be what it is today and if they can’t live our way and believe our nation is here because we made it this way, then they can leave go to any other country they would prefer, we will help them to find the way with good hiderance, we don’t need them, they need us, if not why are they here in the first place, and even if they were even born here and don’t like it, then they can leave also, our generations before them with their sweat, tears, blood, life, wars and faith made it what it is today. Keep the spirit of your beliefs and ours up, we will get all the help from others also we can get for you and your organization to help our nation.

Why?  What’s wrong with encouraging other people to believe in the things that you believe in?
